Niswonger Children’s Hospital and Network

Where Hope Rises

A children’s hospital is a very special place. Families from down the street and across the region come to us for medical treatment. They come with different diagnoses – some with a simple childhood sickness; some with a more difficult story. What brings us all together is our goal to provide the very best in healthcare for all those who need it.

At Niswonger Children’s Hospital and Niswonger Children’s Network, we are committed to treating our patients based on their individual needs. Each patient is special to us, and we want to provide the best care possible; whether they are with us for a few hours in the emergency department, or for a longer stay in one of our inpatient units.

One of the ways we do this is with our Child Life Department. Our child life specialists help prepare children for procedures, help them express and overcome fear or anxiety, and provide opportunities for normal growth and development while they are with us. While our medical experts care for the physical needs of the child; our child life experts help with patients’ mental and emotional needs.

This program is a hallmark of how we want to continue caring for the children in our community. And this effort includes reaching children beyond the walls of the hospital. We know that to truly make an impact in our region, we must provide care for the children beyond the walls of our hospital. Many children in our region will never need acute medical services, but are facing struggles that are just as challenging. In the last few years, we have put programs in place to address these issues, including physical and sexual abuse, low literacy levels, lack of family support and food insecurity. We are committed to continuing to partner with local organizations to make an impact on these though issues.

Our success in all these endeavors depends on the dedication and generosity of so many people throughout East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. There is much to be done to help the children of our region to become healthier, stronger and more capable as they grow into adults.

Thank you for your ongoing support. You inspire us with your boundless passion, your creativity and your commitment.

With warmest regards,
Lisa Carter, CEO
